About the Artists

A little known fact: Many Judaica items are now mass produced. The religious items that you use to decorate your Shabbat/ Yom Tov table are now created and made mainly in China! The traditional Jewish artist is fast becoming a dying profession. Why? Quite simply – money! It is more economical and profitable to design and make items in countries like China because the salaries paid there are lower by hundreds of per cent than in the western world!

But why and how does this affect your "small-time" artist? Why, because an artist who makes items himself refuses to mass produce or compromise on the quality of his materials. When items are mass produced, cheaper materials are used, quality control is less rigid and the uniqueness of "no two items ever being the same" simply disappears. An artist working on his own in a small studio could never match the prices of a company that produces thousands of the "same" item. Many people no longer look for uniqueness in a religious item, merely its cost, something which is slowly killing the Judaica designer.

People are afraid to open internet sites and display their art openly because they know that it only a matter of time before it is seen and mass produced (albeit with cheaper materials) and put on the market at a fraction of the price of the original!

You should know for now, there are no laws prohibiting or protecting artists from this blatant copyright theft!!!

At BlueWhite, we have made it our policy to try to help these wonderful artists whose work, we believe, is an integral and vibrant part of Jewish culture.

All artists featured on our web-site design and make their Judaica in Israel. When you purchase an item, you are purchasing not only a part of their soul but also a part of what has made Israel great – the "little people" realizing their dream in Israel and their determination to continue, despite all the odds against them!

The Israeli government of today no longer encourages the "small" business to flourish in Israel – the exact opposite is true! Higher taxes are paid by small businesses than by large companies, making it all but impossible for these people to survive in an already extremely difficult economic situation.

Here, at BlueWhite, we have already built relationships with several unique Israeli artists and are constantly looking for new, talented people, whose art is their soul and is expressed in everything they do. We GUARANTEE to you, our customer, the lowest possible prices, the highest quality on every product (full explanations accompany each item!) and the service that you deserve from a company whose number one interest is YOU, our customer!

Yair Emanuel – Judaica designer

Yair is a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. He lives and works in Jerusalem. Born on a kibbutz, he grew up in Jerusalem in an Orthodox home and later in life adopted a more pluralistic approach to Judaism. His background has greatly influenced his art, which is based upon a fusion of traditional motifs and ancient Jewish manuscripts.

Yair uses many different techniques in his art, including painting on silk, hand-embroidery, raw-silk appliqué and painting on wood. Most of the designing and making of the items is done at his factory in Jerusalem.

Among the staff in his studio, you will find a mixture from all walks of Israeli society – new immigrants (from Russia, Ethiopia) and mentally handicapped employees. A portion of the studio's profit is donated to charity.

Coresh

Coresh came to live in Israel from Iran at the age of 8 and studied agriculture. He began working in art 10 years ago. For the past four years he has been working with glass and Jerusalem stone, trying to find the harmony between them.

All the materials he uses in his creations are made in Israel. The stone is a unique stone, used and made exclusively in Jerusalem. The glass is of double thickness and specially treated and baked in ovens with a multitude of colours – this ensures its strength and shine.

Coresh will never make the same creation twice – even if we order 10 of a particular chanukiah or candlestick, there will always be small differences between each one. The design is similar, the colours are as requested, but he believes that each piece of art is and should be a unique creation.

All designs are created and made at Coresh's studio in his home in the quiet neighbourhood of Beit Hakerem, the south-west suburb of Jerusalem.
